It doesn't scale as good as Windows..or I haven't found the right setting yet.

Fractional scaling is the answer. It's still seemingly newish so apparently isn't 100% reliable, but I've had no issues.

I found a solution. It really helps to pick the right display driver and turn on the experimental fractional scaling.
I've set mine to 125% with normal scale.
