>>32031 I haven't modded it yet, but I might. I'll experiment with a hand held magnet on the other side and see if it works.

07/01/16(Thu)08:43

did you modify the box? Or are you going to build a new one?

06/01/16(Wed)18:32

>>32027 There is a moveable magnet on the left of the box to control the phone through a sensor, but my phone has the sensor on the right side so it doesn't work and instead you have to remove the phone to do it. It's not hard to remove the phone just annoying.

>>31965 Just announced the oculus rift will be $599 / £499 / 699 euros. The words 'fuck that' sprung to mind, way too expensive.

>>32012 Yes it has, but I got distracted before I got round to posting back here :D

The cardboard box and lenses are ok, they won't last forever but it's fine for a bit of fun. Controlling the phone is a bit of a pain in the arse. The view is a little pixelated, but works very smoothly. The demo is just some 3D photos to look around. I haven't had time to check out any other cardboard apps yet. Maybe tomorrow.

JC, have you got your cardboard VR thingy already?

Oculus Rift requirements:
a fat wallet
and at least 8GB of memory
a 64-bit OS
4 USB ports (1x USB 2.0, 3x USB 3.0)
Nvidia GTX 970 or AMD R9 290
Intel Core i5 4590
HDMI 1.3

I think I said the Oculus Rift would be 1080x1200 @ 90Hz per eye.

Well, let us know how it went.

23/12/15(Wed)09:23

I have a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact with a 4.6" 720x1280 screen which will be ok, but you probably wouldn't want anything lower res. I would hope that Oculus Rift and the other big products will be UHD.
My phone does a great job of Augmented Reality stuff though, very quick processor, so it should be a smooth experience even if it's a little pixelated.

22/12/15(Tue)20:08

Yeah, I saw the Mattel on the website.

I do wonder how good it will look, considering it uses your phone. Will you see the pixels or do you have a HD/UHD phone? hope you won't get a fit or a seizure..better stay away from porn I guess :P

>>31935 UPDATE: I just found it for just 99p!

21/12/15(Mon)23:37

The free Xbox controller is a deal breaker! ;P
And don't forget Google Cardboard for as little as £1.99 on ebay... ...and probably very crap :D

19/12/15(Sat)17:13

As far as I know the Oculus Rift will be more than $350 but likely less than $3000 ;) but you will get a 'free' Xbox One wireless controller
We also have HTC/Valve in the long run, Playstation VR for the PS4 (yuck)

I like the idea of Hololens and Oculus Rift, but unless the prices get a lot better then they are only going to be very niche products.
