I guess.. The 5.1 setup is attached to my HTPC using (3x) 3.5mm jacks and for movies & gaming it's pretty good; I can hear the sounds surrounding me, which is what it was designed for..and it does sound clearly but I have no direct comparison.
I am thinking of buying first a usb DAC.. http://schiit.com/ or https://www.asus.com/us/Sound-Cards/Xonar_U7/overview/ and later some premium 5.1 audio speakers.

Here's a pair of rear woofers with each cabinet having 1-15" Rockford-Fosgate woofer and 1-8" mid-range Kenwood speaker. These speakers are the reason my amp. was destroyed. They each need their own amplifier. I haven't the room for them in my living room so they just sit there. I've tried giving them to a needy person but no one is old school anymore. I assure you the fidelity from these beats any little sound-powered amp. that comes with the surround sound t-v's and computers now-a-days.

903.3
(903.3 Kb, 1936x1288)

I built and baffled these speakers over 20 years ago; before the flat-screened t-v was even thought of. I drove them with a large Harmon-Karden amp. I sucked the life out of it and about a year ago bought this Panasonic amp. that would drive them better. It's old school but has great fidelity and response. At 25% volume, I can shake the walls. Each speaker box has 1-10" woofer, 1-8" mid-range and 1-6" tweeter with a 3" (built-in) tweeter. Center speakers consist of 4-6" speakers (no tweeter since the output is usually voice). I apologize for not cutting them in half for this thread.

I was looking at some of those Porsche turbo chargers and they range in price from $1500 to $4000. I was amazed to read there's different kinds. One operates at lower rpm for greater acceleration and another at high rpm for more power. None will do both. So, there was some conjecture or differences of opinion on whether it was worth the extra price to buy a car that's turbo-charged.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stjvbAO_6JQ
Process gas screw compressor applications lie in heavily contaminated gases or gas mixtures which shorten the life of other compressor types. These positive displacement compressors also allow the broadest stable operating range. Typical applications include oil & gas production, fuelgas, styrene monomer, flaregas recovery, butadiene, soda ash and blast furnace. Suction flow rates up to 100,000 m³/h, discharge pressures up to 50 bar.

Wankel engine (gif)
The Wankel engine is a type of internal combustion engine using an eccentric rotary design to convert pressure into rotating motion. Over the commonly used reciprocating piston designs, the Wankel engine delivers advantages of: simplicity, smoothness, compactness, high revolutions per minute, and a high power-to-weight ratio. The engine is commonly referred to as a rotary engine, although this name applies also to other completely different designs. All parts rotate moving in one direction as opposed to the common piston engine which has pistons violently changing direction. The four-stroke cycle occurs in a moving combustion chamber between the inside of an oval-like epitrochoid-shaped housing, and a rotor that is similar in shape to a Reuleaux triangle with sides that are somewhat flatter.

>>29494 I maintain that this was wood. Looking closely, you can see where the hull was sheeted in steel, but the hull is laminated, grained, and fibrous. Notice on the bottom where the damage took place, the fibrous nature of the hull. The cross section of the beams show solid sections. Wood construction tends to use solid sections for strength, where as steel construction would used profiled beams of "I" or boxed shapes, in the interest of weight reduction. I will offer up a wager of 1000 merlin's bar gift shop points to those who could prove otherwise.

24/11/14(Mon)16:28

>>29484 Most failure was gunk coupled from oil and dirt usually causing the machine to slow or completely ball up (stall). We would provide a 'loaner' and take the customer's machine to the shop for a 'clean & oil'. Depending on constant use, sometimes cams would wear to the point of needed replacement. This would be called an 'over-age overhaul'. All necessary parts would be replaced but the charge was standard no matter how much was replaced. Cha Ching! We had very little competition in the 60's (having almost 100% of all bank registers and bookkeeping machines). When electronics became king, National Cash Register Co. changed to NCR to promote a better audience.

>>29488 Heavy waves crash against the grounded mine countermeasure ship USS Guardian (MCM 5), which ran aground on the Tubbataha Reef in the Sulu Sea on Jan. 17. The grounding and subsequent heavy waves constantly hitting Guardian have caused severe damage, leading the Navy to determine the 23-year old ship is beyond economical repair and is a complete loss. With the deteriorating integrity of the ship, the weight involved, and where it has grounded on the reef, dismantling the ship in sections is the only supportable salvage option. The U.S. Navy continues to work in close cooperation with the Philippine Coast Guard and Navy to safely dismantle Guardian from the reef while minimizing environmental effects.
