I bought an old Kyosho Inferno 1/8th scale nitro car to rebuild and convert to eletric. The motor had blown and been removed and the car was pretty worn out and tired.
The shocks are rebuilt now and seem to be in perfect working condition. I'm designing holders for the battery and ESC currently. It's a bit complicated trying to get it to fit and make use of existing mounting holes in the chassis, but I'm making progress. The official battery and ESC holder wasn't going to work as the space for the ESC is too small for the ESC I'll be using.
>>38910 It doesn't go any speed as it doesn't have a motor yet. Not sure when I'll have the spare cash for that part of the project.
I would need a much larger printer to print a body for this car, but I do want to to something with the body like patching up the holes for the nitro fuel tank and engine or maybe building something from scratch.
The new rear drive shafts just turned up and they fit great but annoyingly they have been slightly redesigned over the years and my existing dogbone shafts are too long to work with it. The new one is on the left and the old one is on the right. So it's back to eBay to get new dogbone shafts!?! XD
Shocks and anti roll bar has been fitted too. I'm waiting on some new protective rubber boots that go over the shock shafts to protect them from mud and stones :)
This is a picture of the car when I got it next to my Kyosho Turbo Optima (right) for scale.
You can't easily tell from this photo, but the shock towers are bent, the chassis is slightly twisted among numerous other little problems.
The body on the car is not the original but it is an Inferno body from a RTR version, the chassis however is from a race kit version of the car so has some extra bits that the RTR version didn't.
The shocks had me confused for a while. They are actually for a race version of the Losi 8ight 2.0, the Losi made competitor to the Kyosho Inferno. Thankfully they fit the car perfectly and are extremely good shocks.
It's been fun stripping the car down completely and fixing all the problems.
So far with this project I've replaced and upgraded the front and rear differentials as one was seriously worn out and the other was actually for a different car, although at least compatible. I was able to get 2 complete new diffs for pretty good money, cheaper than buying the individual gears that had worn.
I also ordered a few other parts from Hong Kong, it's much cheaper, for the electric conversion and to replace a few bits that I could see were worn out.
I found a problem with the rear drive shafts where the pin hole for the wheel hub has worn too much making the rear wheels wobble! I found some parts on ebay so I'll wait for them to turn up.
