You don't have to use a different insert to fit each spool size. You can just have the spool on a rod/roller that will work with any size spool. As long as the spool can rotate that's all that matters.

13/09/24(Fri)12:51

Same as you, 20% infill cubic-style.

Not 100% sure if you would need a different insert tbh. You could also change the design with a ball bearing axel.

12/09/24(Thu)22:21

>>38832 That looks like a good way to print it. Less supports means less cleaning up the print.

Different spool centre sizes is a pain in the arse! :D

Are you printing those parts solid? I usually print at 20% infill which give good strength but saves a lot of filament.

Will take around 5 hour 30min to print

Found a good Enterprise D model, which I'll print upwards for better support. I could do flat but than it supports the whole underside of the dish and engineering and engine nacelles. And it never comes out looking that good.

>>38827 It does require a spool insert and that
depends per roll which doesn't make it very easy to use, imo. Also just the spool holder part, the axel, and the spool insert took around 8 hours on 300% print speed. So, yeah.

Sweet. That's a pretty cool design. My printer has the spool on the top, but I might do a side spool with a tube like this some time.

Tinkercad is easy to get to grips with. Blender on the other hand is very hard to master.

It's amazing how many simple things you find to print. I've been experimenting with designing and printing wheels for my RC Cars lately. Also lots of parts for my small CNC engraver/milling machine.

Ty! https://www.thingiverse.com/search?q=filament+cleaner&page=1 Kinda looks like those ferrite blocks with a sponge.

My get-everything-out-the-tube-and-or-toothpaste tube-thingy is done! It's a bit difficult to turn because the knob is too narrow, but I can always change that later.

Noice!

I love that 3D printers are the perfect tool for upgrading 3D printer XD

You'll find you need to tweak settings with different brands and types of filament. Keep notes! This is also why it's good to find a brand that works well and keep using it.

Another thing I use that is really useful for keeping the printer working well is filament cleaners. They help keep any fine dust out of the nozzle and avoid clogging up. You can buy them super cheap or make your own. They want to be as close as possible to the nozzle for maximum usefulness.

500% at 215C

Currently printing the spool holder. At normal speed this would take around 6 hours or so but at 500% printing speed it probably will be done around 2 hours :D

I've noticed this filament works best at 215C while the other one (white Creality) works best at 200C. And I thought things would easy, lol.

I use a lot of AzureFilm filament, really nice quality. I don't get nozzle blockages with it like I did with cheap chinese from amazon filament.

19/08/24(Mon)16:22

Yeah, that one! XD

It's very simple for simple stuff, and even some pretty complex stuff!

It's worth paying a little more for good quality brand filament. 1Kg of filament is around 330m so that helps when costing things out. It's still pretty cheap to make things.

19/08/24(Mon)14:31

Thanks! You mean https://www.tinkercad.com ? Okay, yeah, that looks simpeler than using Blender.

I do notice the el cheapo brand filament (black) having more webbing than the Creality white filament. This isn't going to be a cheap hobby, lol.

19/08/24(Mon)08:16

>>38772 Classic! Looks good too!

Nice clean prints. Thingiverse is so useful for finding everyday parts for all sorts of things. You can also import the stl files in to something like thinkcad.com and use then in your own designs. I often import parts like screwthreads to use in my own designs.
