Vrooom! Made for my mum who loves the Citroën DS (1973).
100% infill makes it a heavy model, probably sturdier than the real thing ;)

16/12/24(Mon)16:26

I think that's doable as it has straps built-in.

I printed a larger tree >>38942 but it failed half way. So I cut the file in Creality software and later glued the pieces together.
If I had to guess, it failed due to one of the fans (side or head fan) being at 100%. But I was angry and deleted the video.

Tinkercad can shit the bed when importing detailed STL's :/

I have also found I can just use the slicer software to remove the bottom part of a print.

The supports make it look like it's covered in snow :D

Supported tree tree

So I tried Tinkercad but it was too slow as it didn't upload the stl file at all. So I managed to slice the print at the correct height with Creality print. And yes, I did check for fun a supported tree..

12/12/24(Thu)16:04

Thankfully sometimes you can rescue a print by just re-printing the top part. I can't see supports working at all with a print like this. I think the slicer software would just shit it's pants XD

12/12/24(Thu)10:46

The small tree worked but the double sized version did not. Half way through it decided to spray 'n' pray, which left me with half a tree. Luckily I can slice the tree in Tinkercad and hopefully print the top half today.
Oh and the tiny tree took 1 hour to print, I did use a brim but no support.

11/12/24(Wed)17:56

I've seen that style of 3D printed tree before but never tried it. Might have to give it a go :D

You don't have to use a different insert to fit each spool size. You can just have the spool on a rod/roller that will work with any size spool. As long as the spool can rotate that's all that matters.

13/09/24(Fri)12:51

Same as you, 20% infill cubic-style.

Not 100% sure if you would need a different insert tbh. You could also change the design with a ball bearing axel.

12/09/24(Thu)22:21

>>38832 That looks like a good way to print it. Less supports means less cleaning up the print.

Different spool centre sizes is a pain in the arse! :D

Are you printing those parts solid? I usually print at 20% infill which give good strength but saves a lot of filament.

Will take around 5 hour 30min to print

Found a good Enterprise D model, which I'll print upwards for better support. I could do flat but than it supports the whole underside of the dish and engineering and engine nacelles. And it never comes out looking that good.

>>38827 It does require a spool insert and that
depends per roll which doesn't make it very easy to use, imo. Also just the spool holder part, the axel, and the spool insert took around 8 hours on 300% print speed. So, yeah.

I love that 3D printers are the perfect tool for upgrading 3D printer XD

You'll find you need to tweak settings with different brands and types of filament. Keep notes! This is also why it's good to find a brand that works well and keep using it.

Another thing I use that is really useful for keeping the printer working well is filament cleaners. They help keep any fine dust out of the nozzle and avoid clogging up. You can buy them super cheap or make your own. They want to be as close as possible to the nozzle for maximum usefulness.

Yeah, that one! XD

It's very simple for simple stuff, and even some pretty complex stuff!

It's worth paying a little more for good quality brand filament. 1Kg of filament is around 330m so that helps when costing things out. It's still pretty cheap to make things.

19/08/24(Mon)14:31
