Welcome to the future, JC. Now start creating stuff!

20/04/17(Thu)09:47

>>33499 I'm not surprised someone has done this, and good on them too! No doubt MS will try to stop it working and someone will just hack it again.

All crapware (OneDrive, bing news, finance, Get office, Mail, Movies & tv) I removed before the restore point are still removed when I restored the pc. They were also missing after the Creators Update. With the exception of OneDrive. But it removed easily with the powershell command.
However it's still visible in File Explorer. As are all the apps in the WindowsApps folder.
So at least there's that.

Still, I wished I could have a W10 Lite

18/04/17(Tue)21:44

>>33493 And that's how they get you!
I'm convinced the whole point of these updates is just to reinstall all the shit that people like me and you carefully remove. Bastards!

>>33491 well, that wasn't such a win as I hoped it would be. Multiple programs refused to start, like calculator, the App store, my favorite simple card & digit games.
MS fused many things together, that it would be (almost) impossible to get through this maze of crapware. Well...done, Microshit.

All's back to 'normal' as I made a restore point before tinkering.

So I just took ownership of the WindowsApps folder and deleted some stuff like Paint3D, Bing this and that, 3DBuilder, MS Advertising, XBox apps, and a few more. Then I restarted the pc.
Booted fine in Windows.
Checked for new updates; none.
Tried to open Paint 3D: fail (which is good)
Tried to open Paint (original): works!
Tried to open Xbox App: damnit, still works

I never received any ads inside windows but deleting a folder called Microsoft.advertising seemed like a good idea.

I'll let you know if I get ms police at my virtual door ;)

>>33487 Ha! I'm not using Cortana. She isn't even available in Dutch. Also I'm using a local account.

Well, I found the map with the crapware: C:\Program Files\WindowsApps (hidden)

18/04/17(Tue)17:34

But why would you want to remove these amazing new features? You'll be telling you want to remove Cortana next! ;P

18/04/17(Tue)17:33

Found one more that you can't (easily) remove: Xbox Game Speech Window

18/04/17(Tue)17:28

>>33480 (Game Mode) For now yes. (Shader Cache) I doubt it has any real benefit on my system; 16GB of RAM, OS on a SSD, games on a separate ssd, and the rest on a hdd. I never had any issue before..

2 more apps that are unfinished: Mixed Reality Portal, and Wireless Display Media Viewer.
I tried to remove those programs, along with Paint 3D, with powershell but no luck..yet.

So programs you can't remove (using powershell):
-Mixed Reality Portal (Hololens?)
-Wireless Display Media Viewer (Miracast?)
-Paint 3D
-View 3D Preview

18/04/17(Tue)14:27

>>33479 I guess the shader cache location exists permanently, like the recycle bin, even if it's empty.
A shader cache in itself is quite useful as it speeds up loading times of a game by not having to recompile the shaders each time the game loads, instead only doing it when something changes. This is evident in No Man's Sky when the first run of a new version, or after a graphics driver update, takes longer than normal. I don't know how or why microsoft doing this in the OS is a great benefit though as I'd have thought games that needed it would do it anyway. Maybe I'm missing something.
Either way I'm not surprised that the hastily added Game Mode is a pile of shit.

17/04/17(Mon)23:35

I turned off game mode, yet it still is in the Disk Cleanup. You can't delete it, just empty it.

17/04/17(Mon)22:58

>>33475 It was added in Win10 build 15007 and is part of 'Game Mode'. It should be safe to delete as any game using it will just recreate the shaders the next time it runs.

JC dude, can you check 'Disk cleanup' for me? Does it have a section called "DirectX Shader Cache"?

16/04/17(Sun)07:35

>>33468 I'm aware of this and I think it's totally fucked up. Microsoft shouldn't be allowed to do this as there is not good technical reason to do so. It's purely to force people to use windows 10.

I just updated the Nvidia driver and after a restart the monitor couldn't find a connection (aka the gpu borked or driver was unresponsive). Anyway I did a reset and it booted straight into Windows without any hiccups. However I got a message (the 1 in the bottom right) saying I needed to restart so it could repair the C disk :S
Did the restart, and it 1 second repaired the disk and voila all is well.

Now I had this issue before (couple of months ago), did a reset too but then it gave me a BSOD. So this is a step up..a small one but still. Bravo MS.

Selecting more than one pictures in File Explorer causes the mouse to jitter/stutter. This happens only when the ribbon (ctrl+F1) is extended.
When I fold the ribbon and restart File explorer the jitter/stutter is gone.

Why oh Why can't they solve bugs and smash the others?

Well, nightlight just turned on... It's a bit more Trumpy-orange. I'll let you know if I slept better tonight.

The gaming app sucks, and didn't work in GTA5. So far my experience with games is: Star Citizen crashed, GTA 5 seems more stable but with lower frames (65 ish). Stay tuned for more!
