having a modest dvd collection of my own, I understand wanting a way to store the movies in a more compact and easily accessible way. And then I downloaded a movie on a torrent site and watched it from a thumb drive on my tv. It doesn't get more compact nor more easily accessible than a thumb drive!

You probably hit the nail on the head when you say I want too much.
I wanted to have the VHS tapes on DVD and was willing to spend the money for a machine to do it. When I found out how much time it was going to take I gave up.

1. you don't need a burner, just store the movies on a (external) hard drive (example: http://www.ebay.com/bhp/4tb-external-hard-drive )
2. I'll bet it has a minimize function ;) just browse the web or do other stuff, come back when it's done.
3. :/ maybe you want too much ;)

I looked and then read his tutorial. Can't do it, Grim.
1. I don't have a burner
2. It ties up the computer for the length of the movie
The investment of the $100 connector would be better spent on the tape-to-dvd recorder.
3. It's not high speed.
Thanks for your suggestion and concern. I have another VHS player/recorder (new) for backup. The old tapes had great sound (14audio tracks) but no surround digital. Not that bad really.

>>26613 I'll look

>>26613 without watching the youtube, the basic description sounds right.

I capture the video in Adobe Premiere, edit the footage to my satisfaction and then export to DVD. And yes, the original transfer is saved on external and tape is destroyed (or whatever).

>>26612 Store them on your computer or an external hard drive, like v45 does.

>>26603 No but a lot of old 'sleeper' movies you'd probably like.
>>26597 If there was a 'high speed' type transfer systems on the market, I'd buy one today. I wanted to transfer all the old tapes onto dvd but they recorded at the same speed the tape played. I'd burn one up transferring for 600 hours or more.

>>26603 not as often as we should. I have a ton of archiving to do too.

Me? none. I also don't have any cassette players or record player(s), all digital I am.
>>26597 I get that. Digital is the future.

>>26591 Oldbals, how many times a year do you watch those old stills?

>>26590 PORN! ;)

I have a VCR or two put away somewhere, but I haven't used one in years.
Curiously I never bought a VCR, and yet I have owned many over the years!?! (I didn't steal them either!!) Starting as a teenager people would give me their 'broken' VCR's and I would fix them up and use them until a nicer one was given too me :D

I also have one for the purposes of transferring video tape of old home movies to digital.

Not a top loader like this fine example, but yes, I still have a VCR and a VCR/DVD combo. Loads of family video still on those tapes.

Me do. I have at least 300+ tapes and when t-v gets shitty I plug one in. I was told the tapes would go bad but after over 20 years they still play fine.
