Fucking Bastard Computers!!!

Bloody server just died a death after a bios upgrade! Powers up but can't get windows to load, even in safe mode! Have reverted to previous bios and still no good! Grrr!!!!
Looks like I have to start again :( So much software to reconfigure :( At least I can recover the data.

I'm trying out Win 8.1 preview on a virtual machine. It works better than Win 8 at the start menu. But I still prefer Win 7. I simply dislike the whole 'integrate your email account with the OS' and the 'metro' interface.

>>24702 XP is still a great OS, but Vista is pretty poor. Win 7 is currently the best of the bunch, avoid Win 8 unless you have a touch screen.

My little server is 95% sorted now :)
I've also taken the opportunity to overclock it a little, and I'll be adding more memory soon as well.
At least with a fresh install everything is running very smoothly :)

My office computer still has XP. My two at home use Vista. If they ever stop working for whatever reason, I won't even fuck around with it.. I'll just buy another one. I have a lot of respect and appreciation for you guys who can understand all this computer stuff!! Good luck, jesuschrist!

IT people shouldn't be too lazy, Microsoft knows this..and plans it <insert evil laugh>

No UAC in XP, life was easier then :)
Almost back to normal now. All the most important services are up and running again :)

09/07/13(Tue)15:33

Trusted installer I meant. Does XP/Sk3 even have UAC?

09/07/13(Tue)14:53

It seems to be the .NET Framework that takes so long. And why so many updates one after the other!?! Why not just make a latest version I can install in one, but no, windows update knows best :S

>>"are you sure?"
The first thing I do is kill UAC :D

09/07/13(Tue)14:37

I know, I clearly remember it with Windows server 2003..the endless updates, restarts, installations, and "are you sure?".

Oh the joy of having windows update take forever to install a billion updates to my freshly installed OS :/

>>24680 You name it, I tried it!?! It just wasn't to be. It's now well on it's way to getting up and running again.
>>24681 I'll be trying that if it happens again!

08/07/13(Mon)22:50

Don't ask me. I was going to suggest a hammer.

08/07/13(Mon)22:21

What steps did you all do? maybe I or someone knows a stupid or crazy way to help you..

08/07/13(Mon)22:17

How did you tried to update the bios? In the bios itself or through windows (bad)

After hours of fucking around I'm still none the wiser. I've tried so many things and nothing works :/ The error code I've been able to get suggests a hdd driver problem but nothing will fix it. The hdd itself is perfectly fine after testing.
Time to start again :(

08/07/13(Mon)17:34

The bios upgrade included a fix for the CPU fan controller, without it it has to run flat out all the time. It's possible that the upgrade isn't the reason for the windows failure.
I'm wanting to repair windows rather than start again, but I've tried all the repair options with no luck. Currently backing up the drive then I'll have to format and start again :/
It's a real pain in the arse as there is a lot of server software on it that is a bitch to get set up :/
I'll try using System File Checker manually after the backup to be sure there is nothing else I can do before I start again :(

08/07/13(Mon)17:12

wait, did you want to do a clean install?

08/07/13(Mon)17:11

I feel your pain. After all these times MS should know better.

Why a bios upgrade? If it works no need for an upgrade..a wise man said once.

have you tried hooking that drive up in your pc? Can it be read/seen in w.explorer?

08/07/13(Mon)16:53

Still no luck trying to recover the OS. Why can't win 7 have the option to reinstall over the top of an existing install*! Grrr!
*yes technically it does but it's only possible from the windows desktop and not the DVD!?! If you can't boot windows your screwed!
