There's something deeply satisfying about taking a piece of land and making it work. If I'm ever in the area I'll be there to give a hand. Very hard to live like this in the UK now, land is unbelievably expensive and there are so many laws controlling what you can and can't do making any kind of alternative existence near impossible :/ I'm delighted that you and wot have found this little piece of heaven :)

Coming Tuesday is a bit short notice for me but I'll mark any other Tuesdays as 'Working with Teleport'. I'll bet the TSA will have some questions :D

Now I wanna see her fell a tree, Teleport

Your welcome any Tuesday Grim. Hop a flight for this coming one. Were going to eradicate an acre or 3 of skunk cabbage and plant 60lbs of sunflower seeds. I'll save a shovel for you. And yes my wife's 3 ft tall. It's crazy You should see her work a chainsaw GG, she fells all the trees here.

>>24190 she looks so small :O

A woman with a reciprocating saw is a good woman to have around. With enough goats, the need for a lawnmower is almost nil.

My wife or Wot as she goes by with her jerk friends in the back round. The fencing in this one is only temp fence.

Your right about most people having no clue GG, it's amazing how many want to be a part though. I'm only a year in and learning as I go. Besides my old friends who come up a lot to pitch in there's plenty of others who are always trying to come up. I invited my friends 20 yr old slacker son to come up thinking I never see him and he showed up week after week. His friends all wanted to come up and work the farm for free too. There is hope for the next generation, there's only so much sitting in apartments or bars doing nothing till you wanna do something real it seems. The one kid who shows up pretty faithfully brags that i pay him in calories burnt. We've had to clear our Tuesdays for the weekly gang from town helper brigade. Fat girls need love to Vis, your a good man(humanitarian I dare to say). Today we trimmed our posts from the fence we put up last fall. Here's some pics:

start with a before

>>24182 lol!

24/05/13(Fri)20:06

>>24180 I have never ridden a horse and I have never milked a cow. I have porked a few oinkers in my life, but I agree with you.. it must be extremely satisfying to live in a place where you do your own thing (more or less) and live on the land.

24/05/13(Fri)12:27

>>24179 I did branding one time. Wound up with a lot of bruises. Animals don't like getting their ears tagged either.
I don't think the average person realizes what true grit in this country is anymore and you can stand alone in that respect. You remind me of the old west when folks got their hands dirty to get things done. Not too many of us left.

Dirt Wrestling!

24/05/13(Fri)00:49

This spot has always had water, it was completely over grow when we got it but even long periods of no rain and there was still a puddle. our land is at the bottom of a valley with available water any ware you wanna dig for 2 ft.We were able to pick it up on the cheap because the majority of the land was standing water. It wasn't a true swamp land just poor farming practices. I went and dug out a few hundred feet of trenches when we first moved here and now what was waste is back to workable land, plus no rocks to deal with because it was used to be farmed. It is beautiful land- thank you GG. As for mud wrestling, I battle with a pygmy goat on a every few day basis, that is about as close as it gotten so far.

>>24168 lol, can we see mud wrestling in the future?

23/05/13(Thu)02:35

That's a lot of back-breaking work and a lot of mud moving with just shovels. Did you hit a spring fairly shallow? You'll have a place to skate this winter. Beautiful land.

22/05/13(Wed)18:53

No backhoe, just 6 friends , plenty of shovels, a cart and lots of coffee. Afterwords one of our chickens on a spit helped too(hence the blurry shots). We live in central PA. Ducks lack and understanding on composition and rarely use the rule of thirds so we don't let them use the cameras anymore- sheep on the other hand, well never mind.I wanna dredge it deeper through out the summer, I figure on hot days when I have a few minutes I might as well wallow in some muck and get that done.Thank you, I'm really impressed by our handy work.

22/05/13(Wed)12:12

>>24158 You are now your ducks best friend. Did you enlist the services of a backhoe? Where do you live? When all the mud settles, that's going to be a great addition.

22/05/13(Wed)09:16

Why are you letting a greasy chicken use your camera? Everybody knows that mildly damp ducks are better photographers!
