You don't tell them at 5 yrs. old. You don't display a giant dildo cake at their birthday party. You don't have a gob of sperm running down the 'tower' and 10 or 11 is a good time to tell them about sex. Kids do play 'doctor' at 5 or 6 because they're curious but sex teaching at that age is not understood.
There's a debate going on in the Netherlands when to tell your kids about sex and stuff. This had to do with a young boy (6) who played 'doktertje' (children who discover they're different down there) with another boy (also 6). One of the parents was outraged and sued the school.
So when is the right time?
