The PT-40!

Built this in 1986! It took thirty one nights to complete! Three of those night were nothing but sanding flight surfaces, fuselage, and shaping wing tips!

AHEM!! :p
>>15897 You will notice on this post: >>15772 The words- "RED", "DAMN", and "IT"
There was reason for that! XD

Oh, and I like the colour scheme too. The blue and white contrast really nicely with the PINK! XD

SeaFox posted pictures of his plane? Well now I know I'm dreaming! :P

>>15826 That was great! It looked like a full scale chopper until it got close to the ground!

03/04/12(Tue)20:30

>>15824 I know how he felt. This helicopter (Grim's video) is something one would want to be very careful with.

I like this!

>>15818 There is a popular hobby shop in Indianapolis with planes on the ceiling! One of them was a beautiful ducted-fan F-16! I asked the owner how fast does it go! He said- "After I built it, it was too beautiful to fly" "I'm too afraid to fly it"! :D

03/04/12(Tue)11:20

That P-38 had approx. a 32" wing span (very small plane). It's skin was the rice paper and brushed clear dope (1962) and another U-control. There's a very old and well known modle shop here in Houston. Inside the ceiling is covered with planes people no longer want and they're for sale...cheap. I recall one huge byplane for $500. It had 6 channels and was perfect in every detail. Also hanging there was model of a Navy Phantom 2. It had a wing span of 8 feet or more and was priced at $2500. Guess the people got too old or died or something. They'd been there quite a while because , like myself, most people like to build their own.

I would & could never destroy one of my (expensive) builds! To much fun, blood & sweat in it.

03/04/12(Tue)02:56

Well yes, butthey were just blasting their old ones! These guys have about eight planes each, so it doesn't bother them!
How big was the P-38?! I saw the aftermath of a very large scale P-38, and it crashed in the parking lot, and totaled a station wagon! :S
Luckily the owner of the car didn't have HIS plane in there!

02/04/12(Mon)23:36

I'd have to think long and hard to have someone blast my plane out of the sky. A lot of long hours and love goes into those babies. I remember building a P-38 with two Fox-15's...lotta work. First flight...crashed it into a chain link fence..I was just sick. No repairing that one.

02/04/12(Mon)20:12

I get too dizzy for those U-controls! :D
The guys here in the flight club (i'm not a member) Scale up the fun with shotguns! They take their old planes that they don't care about, (usually right after they get a new one) they shield the electronics, and one guy flys the plane, and the other guy blasts it with a shotgun! Radio controlled skeet shooting! :D The rules are- "Aim for the wings"! ;D

02/04/12(Mon)16:58

Glad to see you've finally hauled it outta storage for a 'look-see'. My plane's been in storage over 9 yrs now but the prop still turns. I'll do that 3&1 oil thing. Mine's a U-control (I've shown pics before). We too used to have crape paper streamers dangling from the tail in dog fighting U-control flying. Three cuts was considered a kill. Sometimes we'd accidentially cut ones tail and a crash insued. One had to be a good sport about it. Keeping the lines separate was a real trick. I suppose people still build U-control planes but haven't investigated the various clubs around Houston. Don't really know if I want to invest the time anymore because other things have crowded out a good hobby.

02/04/12(Mon)12:06

It hasn't flown for more than ten years, but I every once in awhile, I put 3-in-1 oil in the carburetor, and spin the prop! That keeps it in working order! These are great little engines, and as long as you take care of them, they do what they're told! ;D
>>15785 The units are ultra light and small! Some of the R/C pilots around here dogfight by streaming ribbon behind their planess, and the attacking plane uses the prop to cut off the streamer! THOSE guys know how to fly!

02/04/12(Mon)05:14

When was the last time you flew this plane. If a long time, was it hard to start the engine?

talking about guns and stuff but be very quit and don't tell JesusChrist about this :D -->

>>15784Won't all those things on the plane slow it down?

01/04/12(Sun)22:23

>>15783 OMG!! That would be perfect for us to have real DogFights! I could just see tracers coming out with that! XD
They do have dogfighting set-up for R/C planes! The best ones have ifra-red guns, and receivers on the tails! When you get three "hits" it activates a smoke-tank in the fuel line, and makes the plane smoke out the tailpipe for a kill!

01/04/12(Sun)19:44

this would be preferred, Now I want a plane too!!
Dogfights!! :D

>>15776 No, my Commodore 64 made me so good! ;D This kept me from hitting the ground so much! :D
If you look at the leading edge of the left wing, you'll see some repair work after a rougher landing! :D

Sweet! So this was your training what made you so good in Il-2 ;)

And...FINALLY!!! ;D

The tailfeathers! :D
I have the electronics out of the plane, or you would see the antenna going from rear of the main wings to the top of the vertical stabilizer!

The wings are transparent with three white stripes on top, and none underneath! The bottom of the fuselage is solid red! RED DAMN IT! :p
All that is so you can tell if the plane is upright, or upside down at a distance! The little red light behind the main wings is something I added on my own! It flashes like a real beacon to tell me if the receiver is on! The little port on the side is to re-charge the batteries!
