>>14928 No doubt! I was a good test score away from making Petty Officer. I really wanted to go to A-school but the higher-ups on the base didn't want to do the paperwork or lose a good cleaner. I try not to talk about it much since it didn't work out for me.

>>14918I figured as much, but still like to correct. It makes me feel shmahrt.

PO3...Petty Officer 3rd Class, Grim. No, Sky20, I was only a seaman, 3 stripes. Got to 2nd Class but was busted for a little trouble I got in to. A Chief Petty Officer would have to serve over 12 yrs (at least) before attaining that pay grade. After 4, I was ready to get the hell out.

28/02/12(Tue)10:14

How did I miss that? And btw it was just an example.

What's a PO3?

28/02/12(Tue)10:11

really seaman?

28/02/12(Tue)08:51

It's "SeamAn" and I'm sure GG was a PO3 before he got out if not a Chief.

26/02/12(Sun)19:48

"Did you support and defend the constitution of the USA and obey the orders of those appointed over you?"

Well isn't that the purpose of being in the military? 'Captain: Go jump of this ship!
Seamen GG: Go fuck yourself!' ;)

26/02/12(Sun)19:18

Answering your question, Sky20...Yes.

26/02/12(Sun)15:46

>>14825 That almost helps ;o)

>>14843 Nice! Did you support and defend the constitution of the USA and obey the orders of those appointed over you?

Truthfully I wouldn't be jumping from major heights without a parachute. That's pretty much a given unless you're dealing with a manic with suicidal tendencies - which isn't me. :o)

25/02/12(Sat)15:56

When jumping from a flight deck of a carrier we were taught to cross legs (keeps family jewels in tact) and cross arms over chest and extend elbows from chest a few inches (keeps the neck from snapping). Don't know how well this position would work at 400 ft.

Vt = terminal velocity,
m = mass of the falling object,
g = acceleration due to gravity,
Cd = drag coefficient,
ρ = density of the fluid through which the object is falling, and
A = projected area of the object.

24/02/12(Fri)19:44

I've always been curious as to my own, personal rate of terminal velocity.

>>14791 I was wondering who would catch me on that ;o)

23/02/12(Thu)19:09

>>14794 I mean the velocity that is enough to break your bones

23/02/12(Thu)19:03

>>14791 You're also less likely to break bones if you're not rocketing toward the Earth at 200 mph! :p

23/02/12(Thu)19:02

You can jump off the cliff, just as long as you don't hit the water at top speed ;)

23/02/12(Thu)18:43

>>14779 You're actually less likely to break bones if your muscles aren't tensed. Softer muscle can absorb more energy away from the bone. That's why it's good to be drunk when you get hurt :D
Trying to dive from such a great height would be your only option, but even then you can't go much higher before you snap on impact :/

23/02/12(Thu)06:35

>>14721 Maybe not, but definitely would be awesome to hang glide.

She's afraid of heights and doesn't understand the thrill it gives me. I can understand her fear since to her mine is just as rational.

>>14722 That would be awesome too!

>>14731 pretty freaky. I would be scared at first and obviously that jumper has some experience with it.

>>14733 I heard anything over 40 would break your bones. Though I knew a guy who once professionally dove off cliffs in Hawaii. That's head-first.

>>14743>>14751 I'd be skeptical of that because if they're dead their muscles aren't tensing in anticipation to reinforce their bones.

22/02/12(Wed)13:27

>>14746 I think the one hitting the water broke about 70 bones!

22/02/12(Wed)12:53

>>14746 the spare ribs broke of easily

21/02/12(Tue)22:55

>>14746 Good, if you like to eat pork.

21/02/12(Tue)22:33

So how'd that work out for the pigs?

21/02/12(Tue)20:46

>>14736 MythBusters tested that one! With dead pigs! :S

>>14733 If you jump into water from 400ft chances are you will shatter most of the bones in your body. It would be like hitting concrete :D

21/02/12(Tue)12:13

I jumped into water from about 40 feet not 400.

Just jump off, you'll land in water

20/02/12(Mon)23:05

Wouldn't get me to sit out there, feet dangling and leaning forward...nosiree bob. My luck the damn thing would decide to crack off about that time. Go bungee jump, Sky20...buy insurance first.

not a great jumping location

Why can't you do that now? And don't say she won't let you..<whip>

20/02/12(Mon)08:57

Oh man... this is amazing! I want to jump off it!
The one thing I wish I would have done between living with the parents and getting married was to bungee jump as well as base-jumping from cliffs like these.
Makes me smile just thinking about the possibilities.
