Thanks for the info, everyone!

I have uninstalled MalwareBytes and Norton and am downloading Avast and CCleaner! I do use Firefox and have the flash blockers already. This computer at the office has been very clean, and very good, for several years already and I look to keep it that way best I can.

>>14319 This man speaks the truth! Avast free is and windows firewall are all you need :)
Another way to protect yourself is to use Firefox as your browser, or chrome I think, with the FlashBlock addon installed. Malicious web pages can use flash to cause you problems so only allowing certain sites to use flash is a good idea.
For cleaning the system, Auslogics have a good defragger and registry cleaner.
If Peter Norton could see how bad the software that bears his name is now he would be spinning in his grave! At least he will when I catch up with him!!!

If we talk about anti-virus software only use one! Conflicts ppl!!

@Visitor: Norton has a tool on their site for deleting. (Norton is a bitch to remove manually).
By Windows Security Center you mean 'Action Center'? or Microsoft Security Essentials?
If you got the latter, than turn updates + VP on. If not use AVG.
Like I wrote b4, only use 1 anti-virus software, Vis, you got 3 installed!
Malwarebytes is a good one for manual scans.
However delete Spyware Blaster.

@Goodgrief: Paid is preferred. You get the full monty if you need/want it.

@Teleport: If your need is basic than yes. CCleaner is a tool for the inexperienced users (no offense) and you don't need it if you know windows (XP, Vista, 7).

I currently use Kaspersky IS and malwarebytes as a backup (not installed). Cleaning the PC I do manually, it doesn't take that much time. You just gotta know where to search ;)

Oh and defraggler, it's by the same people as ccleaner, not for protection but like ccleaner it keeps you computer running smooth and is free. Another option for a firewall is comodo with is free as well but an overkill, windows firewall does the job.

The best setup for everyday computing in my opinion: Avast free edition, they try to sell you on upgrading but the free works perfectly. Windows firewall, if somebody wants to get in to the extent that the get past that they generally will regardless. CCleaner(free), this is a must for any computer, amazing program, gets rid of all the shit on your computer, run it every week or 2 and your computer does not get bogged down. Always good to keep the free version of malwarebytes handy just in case you really need it, don't keep it installed though it uses lots of back round resource. All these are free and will keep your computer in fine shape.

Don't know if this question is just for Grim but I run Avast (2 yr. subscription...$39.00). Don't have to ever disable it to run anything and I understand it's pretty good. Hackers can make anyone's life miserable and get thru just about any firewall so it's the best I can do. Also have Malware Bytes. Had a Vegan virus a year ago looking for a book on a booksite. Two days at the guru shop to clean it.

Maybe the best thread to talk about anti-virus software for computers!

Currently, I have on this computer -
- the pre-installed Norton Personal Firewall, which I disable at start up
- Windows Security Center with Firewall working, but Updates and Virus Protection off
- MalwareBytes - which I believe is always on
- AVG which sometimes appears to work
- Spyware Blaster

I think I should fully delete the Norton Firewall.

What do you have?
