since you're granting requests, i'd like to see you tape your camera phone to the front of the jeep and then have the jeep chase your cat. and then post the video. in that order. :D

(fire) Red as on the box, with a white roof. Also bought black in case I don't like the red ;)
And 'smoke' for the windows.

04/03/11(Fri)19:23

>>8601 So what colour?

04/03/11(Fri)15:39

*small update* I ordered the paint, hopefully it will arrive next week. I will keep it simple..maybe the next body will have flames or a symbol.

Goodgrief, if you click on 'Comment No.8600' (example: >>8600 ), that will show up as a link. Many here are to lazy to scroll down to the referred comment ;)

>>8599 Pretty sure I could rig up a micro-controller with GPS, Compass, Accelerometer, Gyro, Tilt sensors, Collision sensors and more for less than $500 :)

04/03/11(Fri)13:50

8585 that's acutally newer than the flutter system. $1549.95 isn't too bad with that GPS system and memory control.

>>8591 I think probably about half the cost to build one the same, and much less to build a simpler version with just the basics to make it fly steady. :)
You can even buy ready made and kits ones...

...and Grim...damn fine job, my man!

03/03/11(Thu)01:57

8545 (JC) Tethered as meaning 'You-Control' or steel 60ft. lines held by the pilot and spinning in a circle...yes. Tethered out by itself...no. The 'flutter' RC system was 1 channel and the rudder would ocelate or flutter quickly back and fourth. When the control stick was moved the rudder would flutter to that side, demanded by control, more often than the other thus moving the plane in the desired direction. It's all that was available at the time. I've looked on various sites to find this antique system with no luck. Now that kopter that sky20 posted is something else. I'm at a loss for words. Probably cost a bazillion bucks. What a machine!

*UPDATE* I got it running!!! Problem was not only wrong connectors on the ESC but also a dead battery. It can now crawl but also race like a maniac :D
Next to do is the body, which will be a crime to do too :/

02/03/11(Wed)11:12

JC, did you paint the inside or the outside of two of those buggies? And what would you recommend?

01/03/11(Tue)15:51

>>8542 Do I recall correctly that you used to fly tethered planes?

01/03/11(Tue)15:02

If you guys want a good laugh, you should google the old RC systems we used in the 50's and 60's. They were a 'flutter' system with one channel. Things have really come a long way.

01/03/11(Tue)13:15

>>8534 >>8537 I'll try to get it on here soon! Thanks guys! ;)

28/02/11(Mon)13:56

>>8510 Single prop! It's an old PT-40! It's a high wing plane with a 6 foot wingspan! I have transparent blue covering on the wings!
I need to clean it up first, it's covered in dust! I have not had the time to get it flying again!

28/02/11(Mon)12:50

>>8497 great :D Does it have a single propeller or 2?

27/02/11(Sun)21:13

>>8496 The boat is about 22 years old. I had started to refurb it a couple of years ago but then life got in the way! I'll get back to it one day. It is in working order though :D
The nearest lake I can use it on is about 10 miles away, but occasionally we get a flood nearby and I can use it then XD

27/02/11(Sun)19:46

>>8489 I haven't got the bullet connectors yet. I had no problem with my tank, that has the same connectors as your buggy.

>>8485 Damn! Which one is the most fun to operate?
I like the white boat, it looks unfinished?

It's a pity there is no water nearby otherwise I would've gotten me a boat/ship too

27/02/11(Sun)17:11

One of these days, I'll clean up my R/C Plane and post a pic of it!

3752.8
(3752.8 Kb, 3872x2592)

>>8485 Here is a picture so you can see what I'm on about with the wires and connectors. The Blue and Yellow come from the speed controller then connect to the Red and White motor wires with waterproof bullet connectors. You can also see where the Red and White connect to the motor with spade connectors.
In a way it is overkill to have two lots of connectors in the line, but it is very important to have at least one set of connectors otherwise stripping the car down will be made much harder.
Hope this helps :)

>>8482 Just cut the connectors of the end of the motor wires (not at the motor end) and then crimp on new connectors that match the ones on the ESC :)
And top quality motors have spade connectors on them rather than soldering directly to the motor :)

My collection of RC vehicles XD

27/02/11(Sun)01:05

>>8480 I thought if you gonna fit new cables directly on the motor you needed it to solder?
The current ones are.
Anyway, will try to find 2 connectors tomorrow, my dad stores everything so there must be some laying around..somewhere in the garage or attic.
Ha, apparently my dad does have a soldering iron.....somewhere ;)

Pics of your RC vehicles!

26/02/11(Sat)23:30

>>8479 You don't need a soldering iron to fit new connectors, that's what the crimping tool is for. And FYI, buy a soldering iron!!! In fact buy several just in case! I have 3 electric ones and a couple of gas ones :D

>Is that the only one you have?
RC vehicles? No I have lots XD

26/02/11(Sat)23:16

>>8477 I'm a noob at this. And I don't have a soldering iron, otherwise I would've just connected them directly (against your advise ;)

Is that the only one you have?

26/02/11(Sat)19:02

>>8476 I would have just fitted new connectors on the motor to fit the existing ones on the ESC, but whatever works is good.
The RS540 motor you have will be just fine, but if you ever want more performance that would be the thing to change.
My Turbo Optima is 4wd, and sends stone flying like a demon :D

26/02/11(Sat)17:42

>>8472 nah, I tried that bridge connector and it didn't work. It's too late now, so I ordered a new ESC. But steering works like a charm ;)

As for the motor; I'll first give the original some time. Maybe it will do the trick nicely.

>>8475 Nice ride, stones must be flying when you are driving! :D
Is it 4wd or 2wd?
I kinda like the unpainted body, although I will paint my Toyota. And are those decals or stickers?

26/02/11(Sat)16:29

>>8459 Sweet! That RS540 motor would be the first thing I'd upgrade. Get some real power in that mofo!! :D
>>8469 Excellent, do you have any connectors to crimp with it? You don't want a permanent connection between the ESC and motor, it's a pain in the arse when you want to strip things down.

I would really prefer Dutch..but my Engrish is pretty good, so no matter. The manual is in Japanese, English, French and German.

As for the parts it is like Ikea; spare parts galore!
Not as much as the tank..maybe close to 150 plastic parts, the metal parts (minus screws, bolts and nuts) give-or-take 100, maybe less.

*UPDATE* I've build the transmission with planetary gears mounted on the engine plate.

25/02/11(Fri)19:46
