My WVO Benzo
13/06/10(Sun)19:28

Finally fully converted my car to run on pure waste veggie oil. We had been blending it now I have a ghetto , yet functional heated tank so I can run veggie pure.

>>4957 Sounds like a typical beureaucratic rip off to me. If I have an electric car do I have to pay tax at the same rate as petrol when I charge it? If they really must put duty on it, what about charging a lower rate, like for LPG?

It keeps on progressing, now i'm unghettofying the setup. A feble attempt at making it look almost professional. As for taxes, no,no,no,,,I haven't heard of any tax I have to pay and I am certainly not going to try to find one.

Sweet! I'm pleased to see this project progressing nicely. Do you have to pay any tax on the fuel before you can use it? Here in the UK you can happily make your own fuel but you must pay fuel tax at the same rate as diesel, which is a lot.

And what about the smell?

Thanks Vis, I like the floor in my kitchen alot too (my landlord has good taste). And yes it is laminate. The car is still a diesel vehicle, it requires nothing to run diesel or biodiesel strait.By putting in the secondary tank system in it enables me to start on regular diesel and if I feel so inclined I can switch over my fuel intake to run off the waste veggie oil. The part I really like is that the wvo is heated by rerouting radiator coolent , in essance i'm taking waste heat, rerouting it to heat the oil making it less viscous and able to use in place of the primary tank(diesel).

>>4942 different people have different talents and i certainly applaud your ability to do this and maintain the commitment. how difficult would it be to convert the engine back to diesel, if you had to?

cool flooring.. it's laminate? never seen one like that. a great effect :)

>>4942 You can start your own McDonalds ;)

Great that you make the Merc green (not known to be eco friendly). I salute you or just thank you ;)

They made big noises about it being a form of tax evasion, and the papers were full of stories saying it would ruin your engine. It's all died down now. I don't think there are enough people doing it to seriously affect government revenues.

Thanks you guys. No this is only being shared with a couple of friends, you guys, and the people I score oil from.I have to amp up the filtering now , this set up for filtering looks like shit but seems to be working for today atleast. Soon the hope is to have some kind of contraption to hook up to the fryers themselves and get paid to filter as well as take the oil home.
What happened with the inland revenue? Did they ban the cars that burned oil, or raise the taxes on the veggie oil?

14/06/10(Mon)21:57

A few years ago people over here were buying cooking oil from the supermarket and putting it straight in thier cars, 'cos it was cheaper than diesel. The Inland Revenue didn't like it though, killjoys!

very nice! have you talked to your local mercedes benz dealership about this? ;)

>>4919 Or you could make stops at restaurants! ;D
This is really great!

The tank is 6 gallons, I get a little over 20 mpg on the oil, so I should be covered for 120 miles in a perfect world. I just finished it at about 11 pm last night so i've only had time to put about 30 miles on the new setup. I'm thinking that in our very imperfect world I can be good for atleast 100 miles which is plenty for a day, and if a trip were to happen I could just keep an extra 5 gallons in the trunk for a quick fillup.

can you drive out the street before running out of fuel?
