To close the image us the X button top right or left click on the image, double left click to close in zoom mode. To use the zoom feature us the zoom button top left. It is certainly a strange choice to change such an iconic character, especially as there are good characters in the series from other races anyway. It seems like a great way to piss off everyone. I hope the show will be good regardless, but time will tell.
