Rogers started out here in Houston even before he teamed with the "First Edition". He sang in a smoky old bar room within a group of other bars known as 'Market Square'. He was ok with potential. He took voice lessons early on and at one time was making $400,000.00 a week just off of record sales. Trivia shit...

I just always try to remember Kenny the way he was before he did all the work..

>>23819 Tremendous tribute. This just shows that Vince is a person first and an entertainer second. I liked him before, liked him more when he went back to Bluegrass, now he has much respect.

>>23819 Very good tribute to Mr. Jones. Vince Gill got a little caught up in the moment, didn't he.
I was watching the last concert Jones did and I for one think the guy should have sat down and retired; poor guy got to the point where he couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. Maybe these big performers would live a little longer if they didn't succumb to the demands of audiencies.

I found this heartbreaking. Song starts at 7:22

>>23785 That's simply adorable. Wouldn't surprise me to see it on the Sat. morn. Pokemon show for kids.

Willie got a whole damn RCA orchestra! George Jones stuck with what he started out with and still went platinum. Why change with the times and be something you didn't start out to be just to pay the tax man?

Retooling the songs to fit your style doesn't work for everyone......

>>23780 Great example of staying relevant, but what you missed is that he did not reinvent himself to fit the times, but presented the song with new life in his world. Willie kept his vocal rhythm, replaced the piano with steel guitar and twang.

I present the following example:
Johnny Cash giving a new life to Soundgarden's Rusty Cage

>>23759 I understand what you're saying, Oldballs. Coldplay's version of The Scientist is good. But it was Willie Nelson who made me love it. The best artists can reinvent themselves and stay relevant.

He was just here in Houston a little over a month ago and as of last Friday tickets were still available for his tour stops.
>>23762>>23761 The two songs I liked the most he did.

Vis, new music from favorites is not always what we look forward to. A living memory is often preffered to a classic artist releasing some new twist, trying to match the times and have it fall flat, then come out and claim that this is your best work and that you are happy with it. Yeah.. Rest in Peace, Jones. His music doesn't do anything for me, but I'm sorry for the fans who will never hear new music from him.

28/04/13(Sun)21:11

You must know George Jones. Everybody knows George Jones. He was admitted to the hospital in Nashville, Tenn. with irregular blood pressure and high fever (they don't know yet what killed him).
His songs are on Youtube.
