Hmmm. I would have thought ownership here would have been much, much higher. News media has also had numerous broadcasts on semi-automatic weapons and the banning of them since this tragedy. Didn't know they were used on the children. So....what's our government going to do with a simple hand gun? Nothing!

18/12/12(Tue)08:34

Okay, something I pulled from yesterdays paper:

Ownership of Guns per 100.000 citizens
USA: 88.8
Serbia: 58.2
Germany: 30.3
Belgium: 17.2
South Africa: 12.7
Netherlands: 3.9

Deaths by guns per 100.000 citizens
South Africa: 17
USA: 2.98
Serbia: 0.86
Belgium: 0.44
Germany: 0.20
Netherlands: 0.20

There's just a few of us here discussing an issue that's nationwide and look at the various ideas. Now multiply that by 250 million and it's fairly easy to see why nothings getting done nor will it ever. We have no answers that everyone can agree on. We'll mourn our dead, bury them and forget all gun issues untill it happens again (which it will). Then we'll be right back here hashing it out again. Am I rolling over playing dead or sticking my head in the sand? Don't you bet on it. I've come to grips with insane people and accept them.

17/12/12(Mon)22:43

>>21333 bigger guns for the criminals to break in and steal! woohoo!! ;)

I agree death row is a joke. Let's execute the inmate while it is fresh in our memories and we can all heal and move on.

We may always have crime, even if all guns are outlawed. But why make it easier for the cowards/criminals by giving them automatic weapons?? Those weapons should be outlawed.

17/12/12(Mon)21:58

>>21332 It's because we don't execute them fast enough! There's always the appeals, which I don't agree with at all! There's WAY too many on what we call- "Death Row"! Which in my opinion should not exist! But, this is America, and even if we didn't have guns, we would still have crime/murders!
AND I have big guns, because I know the bad guys have big guns! I used to have only .22's & 16 gauge shotguns (3), but when someone broke in the house, and stole them, I bought bigger guns!

your gf?

>>21329 I meant that even with guns you still have crime. And even knowing that you can get the death penalty criminals still try to rob/kill ppl. So does it really matter? No. You just like the feeling of having them (is it your gf? ;)

I can get you want to protect yourself from muggings, car theft etc. so what's wrong of owning just 1 gun; a pistol or a revolver or a shotgun?
No more assault rifles, rpg's (are they allowed too?), semi-automatic rifles and machine guns.

17/12/12(Mon)20:21

>>21323 Because of what I said there!-> 21322!
If they would just make everything the death penalty, we wouldn't have any criminals! And I don't mean death row for ten years, I mean right after they leave the courtroom! Go right from the courtroom to the exicution room! Problem solved!

17/12/12(Mon)19:32

"A study in the Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery found that the gun murder rate in the U.S. is almost 20 times higher than the next 22 richest and most populous nations combined.

Among the world’s 23 wealthiest countries, 80 percent of all gun deaths are American deaths and 87 percent of all kids killed by guns are American kids."

Americans are not interested in solving issues because we are a selfish and entitled nation. "Yes, cut spending!! But don't cut anything that is going to effect me!! And let people die from guns because I am entitled to my fully automatic rifle!!" This attitude is so disgusting to me.

17/12/12(Mon)15:13

>>21322 :/ yet still you have crime

17/12/12(Mon)13:26

>>21317 >>21318 Using a non-lethal on an intruder is no good! You taze them, they get arrested, they go to jail, then your tax dollars get to feed, and house them, they get free heath care at your expense, and then they get to sue you because you failed to protect them while they rob you, or because of this Nations stupidity, (shown by the election) they get found not guilty by a cowardice jury, and get to come to your house and do it all over again!
Killing them ends all that! Also ensures they don't do that again! ;)

17/12/12(Mon)13:01

It's a good idea, Grim. The mind set of humans to defend themselves first goes to killing an intruder rather than stunning him. Probably having limited ammo and the fact an intruder may still be able to function enough to harm you would be reason enough to purchase a gun. Then there's the human factor to just reach out and kill something.

>>21311 true, it happens everywhere. But it happens more in the places where guns are allowed.

Why not arm people with non-lethal weapons?

16/12/12(Sun)23:52

Damned if I know why people need semi or full auto guns. They're fun to shoot but I don't own one. Got my gut full of shooting people about 50 yrs ago. I still target practice. The loads I use for home defense will maim and not kill. Intruder would certainly have wished he'd gone next door. Should tyranny ever come alive from our government, the armed forces would be right there by the side of the American people helping to overthrow it. There is NO answer that will solve this insane problem. News is delving in to the boys mental condition (quite, shy, neat, introvert). Give me a break. How many people you know that have compulsive traits? They're grabbing at straws, hyping the event and selling papers at the same time. This is happening because the world's gone crazy and that's the simple truth of the matter. Throw all the guns in the ocean today and lock up half the nation because they're either compulsive or strange and this will happen again tomorrow. It's not just here in this country it's everywhere and they don't have guns like we do. Get on the net and read about mass murders throught the world...it just keeps happening.

16/12/12(Sun)23:16

The argument from Rep. Louie Gohmert (Republican from Texas):

"Well, for the reason George Washington said a free people should be an armed people," Gohmert said, responding to a question on why people need assault weapons. "It ensures against the tyranny of the government. If they know that the biggest army is the American people, then you don’t have the tyranny that came from King George. That is why it was put in there, that’s why once you start drawing the line, where do you stop? And that’s why it is important to not just look emotionally, our reaction, Chris, is to immediately say, 'let’s get rid of all guns.'"

Gohmert argued that more guns would lessen gun violence, saying he wished the principle at Sandy Hook Elementary School that was attacked Friday had been armed. "I wish to god she had had an M-4 in her office, locked up so when she heard gunfire, she pulls it out and she didn’t have to lunge heroically with nothing in her hands, but she takes him out, takes his head off before he can kill those precious kids," he said.

16/12/12(Sun)23:06

>>21303 There are guns, and then there are assault weapons. And then there are lesser weapons (knives and such) whereby the person being attacked potentially has a fighting chance (assuming the attacked is not a 6 year old child).

The purpose of an American needing to own an assault weapon is unclear to me.

"Lanza used a Bushmaster AR-15 "assault-type rifle" to gun down children in two classrooms, according to Connecticut State Police Lt. J. Paul Vance, then killed himself with a handgun. "Multiple magazines," each of which contained 30 bullets, were fired from the Bushmaster weapon in the school."

16/12/12(Sun)22:57

Pistols did the trick here but with helpless children a knife could have done. It really doesn't matter...madmen and slaughter aren't necessiarly associated with automatic weapons. Tighten gun control laws all you wish. Take all guns away and destroy them. Mad insane folk will still find a way. Always have and even before black powder was invented. You can damn near build an A-bomb from info on the net.

16/12/12(Sun)22:55

>>21301 you're right, I did. Trying to do too many things at once. Thanks! :)

16/12/12(Sun)21:57

>>21300 erm, you probably meant full automatic and magazines (or box magazines, drums and double drums)

16/12/12(Sun)21:40

I'm okay with Americans owning guns as a freedom. I am not okay with Americans thinking because they have a freedom to own a gun, they need to have 50 of them and they need to be semi-automatic and cartridges need to hold 50+ bullets. Why the NRA and proud gun owners are defending that, I'll never know.

16/12/12(Sun)16:34

>>21287 Timothy McVeigh anyone?

>>21286 Don't you think it's sad that in a 'developed' nation like the USA, teachers would need to be armed to protect the children and themselves?

16/12/12(Sun)00:24

Now that pictures and names have been released of the people shot, the news is asking the big question if Washington will be forced to making tougher gun laws. Ha! Good luck with that. Next time some madman will just blow the whole damn school up. Then Washington will have to make tougher oil and fertilizer laws.

15/12/12(Sat)12:27

You have a point, Fox. Texas passed a law 2 yrs. ago allowing people to carry a weapon on the front seat of their vehicle. Stop-sign robberies, road rage shootings and 'bump-and-rob' robberies have declined dramatically.
Had there been some 'Annie Oakleys' with pistols and saddle rifles (serving as teachers), that shooter might have thought twice before going in the door.

15/12/12(Sat)03:21

>>21259 This is why I HAVE guns! Because of lunatics like that! And there's been a few times I've had to let people know I have one on me, to make them back off! One time it happened at a Drive-up ATM!

15/12/12(Sat)00:16

'Course the gun issue will surface once again. Doesn't really matter 'cause if people want to go mad and slaughter others guns aren't really needed (Jack the Ripper) bombings with fertilizer,,etc...

14/12/12(Fri)22:55

I just wonder if there's going to be more of this as it gets closer to the 21st! :/

14/12/12(Fri)22:12

World is mad. We can't understand what they do but they can. Not crazy / crazy .

14/12/12(Fri)21:38

Yes, I'm trying to figure out how anyone could stand there, and keep shooting babies! You would think after the first shot, it would make a shooter phyically sick!
There are days I wish I was Superman! :(

14/12/12(Fri)21:25

The back story on this kid and the family will be interesting. But the loss of life is unbelievable... like watching planes tear into buildings on 9/11. Really hard to believe someone could point a gun at 18 children and open fire.

14/12/12(Fri)20:05

>>21243 I'm watching all that on the news now! He even killed his Father in Jersey! And they found his Mother dead Also!
