In ms paint just resize the pic to 50% which in most cases does the trick. Changing from bmp to jpeg or png helps reducing the weight (in mb or kb) too, however it also reduces the quality.

Grim...I'm using the Windows Live Photo Gallery to resize the pics from the camera card which are originally 4000 KB. Those other pics were from my old hard drive which I had installed on this new computer. I was resizing them on the other hard drive and then transfering them here. I'm learning with all you guys help as you can see. BTW this is a golden butter cake with butter frosting and a hint of cinimon. Betty Crocker helped me.
