The Moon
10/04/11(Sun)18:27

The Moon captured by my Sony A300 SLR on my crappy Tasco Telescope.
It's not perfect, the Tasco telescope lens seems to have some scratches that are showing up as dark blobs, but other wise I'm pretty pleased with how my new telescope to camera adapter works :)

>>9099 You usually find the Moon in the sky! ;D
But this pic is hard to take! Costs billions! ;D

Moon shot with the digital!
Now I wish I had a camera mount for the telescope! This is close to the time (maybe a little late) to find that crater with the mounatin in the center at the terminator line!

great pics and very interesting topic. please post more! :)

>>9078 They also have a CCD camera for the Meade, but it's not cheap! You can also plug it into your PC and control all movement from there, but I need about 400 feet of interface cord! :D
It would be cool to do all that from inside the house! :)

>>9078 We typed in at almost the same time! :D
I have an old one of that model too! Got it at a yard sale in the 90's!
Both telescopes are good, but I wish thay had sturdier tripods!

>>9074 I've heard that! But you would think it would effect other "weak" spots in the tectonic plates, so I'm not sure if I believe that!
You would also think that we would have more volcanic eruptions from the friction to the interior of the Earth caused by extra tugging from the Moon!

>>9069 I was looking at a telescope just like that on eBay for fairly sensible money. Very tempting. :D
My Telescope is an old version of this one

>>9074 Yes the moon was recently at it's closest to earth. Nothing to do with Japan though, just the natural oscillation of it's orbit :)

Great pics JC :)
I believe the moon is at its closest to the earth for a very long time and has a lot to do with the earthquake in Japan. Anyone know if this is true?

>>9067 Fantastic! That's what I saw last night! ;)
My favorite time to observe the Moon is right at half! There is a crater right in the center, on the teminator line! In that crater is a mountain in the center! You can see the tip of the mountain top lit up by the sun! (it will be a dot) Look over at the bright sun-lit inside wall of the crater! You will see the shadow of the mountain on that wall! You can make out a little of the shape of the mountains' shadow! :D
This can be seen only at half Moon! Kind of exciting really! ! :D
My telescope is a Meade # DS-114 D=114mm F=910 f/8
It's a reflecting telescope on Alt-Az mount equipped with motor drives and goto computer system. Comes with three eyepieces (Huygien .969) at 4mm, 12.5mm, and 25mm. It also includes a 3x Barlow and charting software!

Ok, here's a night time shot. Unfortunately the telescope tripod can't cope with the weight of the camera so I was very limited in the length of the exposure I could take. I'll try it again another night with a better setup :)

I took it this afternoon while the sun was still up :D
Now it's dark I'm going to try and get another shot

Did you take this last night?! I was looking at the Moon just last night, and it was just a little less illuminated than this! :)
