Dear Yoda,

isn't fire more difficult? With all the particles and constant change?

24/08/10(Tue)22:08

>>6073 i am considering that as an option.. the fire i think i can do, but the charred elf will take some additional thinking and scheming.. would be a fun visual though! :)

24/08/10(Tue)19:22

>>6061 That picture looks like there should be flames coming out of the mouth roasting the little guy, then a shot of the blackened character blinking his eyes rapidly in disbelief! :D

24/08/10(Tue)16:18

>>6068 and these are exclusive pics you won't see anywhere else! ;)

>>6065 i purchased a disk full of pre-keyed special effects that i will have to go through. fire, smoke, blood and debris.. might as well try! :)

>>6063 i go to work and come home and model. i do nothing else and i have no life. and i like the underdog, too.. ;)

24/08/10(Tue)15:46

Loving the preview pics, vis. Can't wait for the movie :D

24/08/10(Tue)13:50

Good looking dragon, visitor!
Will it be a bloody movie? ;)

24/08/10(Tue)10:52

You are working way faster than me, that's for sure.

And my money is on the dude. I always bet the underdog

another view.. this took most of monday to set up. i hope i can finish an animation by the end of this week.. we'll see how it goes. something simple maybe, to at least experiment with these rigs :)

place your bets on who wins? ;D

is this what you had in mind? won't be much of a fight though, probably.. ;)

24/08/10(Tue)00:19

>>6058 thanks! i thought of tying him to two posts and letting a dragon come up the mountainside to get him :)

23/08/10(Mon)23:00

Looks great! Very smooth work there.

>>6055 Is he going to fight the dragon?

Really cool!
Can you show the rig? Or a wireframe for that matter?

23/08/10(Mon)21:03

>>6039 Sweet!

23/08/10(Mon)20:03

So far, the test is good, and I want my mommie! :p

my dragon animation test.. 2 seconds..

18/06/10(Fri)21:19

It was! :)

Well, rigging was, anyway.

18/06/10(Fri)21:13

Looks like time consuming work! ;)

(503.3 Kb, 1920x1080)

That's the rig and mesh.

The "lookAtMe" is a common name given to the controllers used to move the eyes to a specific direction.

If there are any questions I'd be happy to answer.

18/06/10(Fri)17:37

would love to see a screenshot of the rig and mesh you're using :) if you have time

17/06/10(Thu)20:05

To be honest, I have two rigged characters I've made myself, and another three I got from school to practice with.

This guy's rig is somewhat cumbersome, so I'll probably fix that sometime in the future, and then upload it somewhere for others to use if they will.

17/06/10(Thu)19:02

>>4990 whoops!! sorry ftcyp! 4 computers to render!! that sounds like fun! i'm happy to know you are able to do animation on your free time.. and now you have a fully rigged character you can put in new adventures! does he have a name? :)

>>4997 yes it is! :)

16/06/10(Wed)23:07

>>4995 That might make sense, it's possible that the code I use that recognises a vimeo site page needs updating :)

Testing to see if it's working now...

16/06/10(Wed)21:47

>>4993

I think the problem is it doesn't include the last digit of the link, using only the first 7 digits. This might be something in the embedding code itself, which only allows for a limited number of digits.

16/06/10(Wed)21:38

Great work FtCYP. No idea why the video on the page is wrong, but the link is right though!?!?!

16/06/10(Wed)21:17

>>4987

I guess you addressed me, since firahun isn't here. I work mainly at home, but I render at my school.

The school has more computers, so I can render more and faster.

The only way I was able to both change the animation AND render it all is because I used about 4 computers simultaneously to render it.

Thanks for the compliments. :)

16/06/10(Wed)20:21

fira, are you limited to working on animations only in class, or do you have the ability to work on your home computer?

16/06/10(Wed)20:12

LOL! The facial expressions were great! And flying off the screen was unexpected, and hilarious! XD

16/06/10(Wed)20:06

>>4981 awesome work!! love the reactions and the child-like curiosity of this robot! very well done :D

i wonder what issues your teacher had with the original animation?

16/06/10(Wed)20:00

WTF?
That thing embedded in the previous post is irrelevant. Click the link for the actual uploaded work

16/06/10(Wed)19:59

http://vimeo.com/12621663

I actually was able to finish the rendering (which took me about a week), but then my teacher said I had to change a lot of the animation itself, which means re-rendering the entire thing for another two weeks.

Fun was had by all.

Enjoy

04/06/10(Fri)08:57

720/576px (also PAL). Not HD, so it may take less time to render, hopefully.

03/06/10(Thu)22:15

wow ok! and the resolution size?

03/06/10(Thu)21:51

30 seconds on 25 fps (pal) so about 750 frames. I'm rendering 5 layers for each frame, so that's about 3750 rendered frames overall.

Rendering can be fun if your computer doesn't choke at the slightest rise in temperature. The air conditioning is working full time, I can assure you.

03/06/10(Thu)20:49

rendering is fun! :D best of luck

how many seconds or frames is your animation?

03/06/10(Thu)20:09

>>4677
Yeah, sorry about that. A change of plan means I have to start rendering already. So no playblast previews of the animation. I'm supposed to turn it over this Tuesday. Hopefully I'll be able to do that or at least upload it sooner.

01/06/10(Tue)21:45

thanks guys! i will model a suit for him. my issue has been that my characters are looking too realistic and not cartoony enough. haven't figured out how to shake that yet..

>>4676 so, where is your final project?? :D i am patiently waiting to see this!! :)

01/06/10(Tue)21:20

>>4652

Thanks.

And yes, partly I made him hover because I wanted to avoid the walk cycles, and partly because the auto-rig we were required to use was for bi-pedals. I designed him as a mono-foot from the start.

>>4653
Looks amazing :) Is he going to be naked or are you modeling a suit for him?

01/06/10(Tue)21:06

>>4653 Yikes! I don't think we should be seeing this! ;D

here is, unofficially, a mesh i'm creating for a new animation..

01/06/10(Tue)02:21

he hovers --- did you do that just to avoid the walk cycle??! ;)

i like the speaker / intercom.. great detail

31/05/10(Mon)21:42

>>4649

He hovers.

I'll be finishing the animation about this time tomorrow. I'll upload it to Vimeo and link it here.

Thanks for the compliments!

31/05/10(Mon)21:07

ftcyp, your work deserves it's own thread! great job!! absolutely love the colors and textures. i forget if this guy hops around or has a wheel? very good progress! :D

31/05/10(Mon)20:57

Hijacking your thread there Vis. I hope you won't mind.

A little update on my 3rd year project in animation, and a question:
Does this burn your eyes? I think I may need to recalibrate my screen

25/05/10(Tue)16:43

>>4448 haha burn!

25/05/10(Tue)12:07

>>4441 "5 minutes - in and out. :)" - So I've heard...

25/05/10(Tue)00:08

90 minutes?!? i'm hoping to reverse that trend of movies that go on and on and on for hours! ;) 5 minutes - in and out. :)

24/05/10(Mon)20:26

Awesome! Another 90 minutes and you've got yourself a blockbuster! :)

23/05/10(Sun)23:45
The eyes..THE EYES!!!

Nice action and great sounds!! :D

When will you make a short movie?
And how is ur Batman vs Joker going?

23/05/10(Sun)23:13

i've wanted to try adding special effects to my animations outside of blender, and preferably, using after effects. this is a simple test to see if the 3d world and the live-action effects could live together in harmony...

23/05/10(Sun)21:12

Fantastic! Does this have something to do with the stolen lollipop?! :p

23/05/10(Sun)20:48
