Shit! At that speed the road scrapes off the leathers and then the skin. Road racers are insane. I don't remember much of that going on here back in the 60's but I didn't have the cash nor the bike to enter anyway. I had some pretty good wrecks at 40 and 50mph that gave me a good lesson that that was fast enough. I remember going over the handle bars and sticking head first in a sand bank. My rectum landed up in my voice box. Could have snapped my neck that day. Crazy!

New bike has arrived :D
It rides pretty sweet, the motor is going to make the hills around here very easy going :)
My old MTB behind it is a Raleigh Mirage 21" from 1990. #oldskool :D

>>26850 I have ME not MS and I'll wear a helmet but otherwise nothing special. I had a few nasty bike crashes as a kid so I feel I don't have many chances left :D

>>26850 No, no bicycles; just flat track and scramble racing for 3 years.

Arnold's been riding an invisible bicycle his entire life.

speaking of special gear, have you ever ridden an invisible bike? It can be tricky at first, you can go as fast or as slow as you want, and don't have to worry about running over nails, tack strips or glass. You could even fit it with a motor and cruise 20-30mph without any effort at all!

10/02/14(Mon)19:41

>>26847 you obviously never cycled (hardcore) off-road. I once fell so hard I bruised a couple of ribs. I didn't use any special gear though.

And I don't have MS.

Update: The bike I wanted just came back in stock so I've just ordered one. Fingers crossed it'll be as good as I'm hoping it will be :D

I've decided I'm going to get this slightly cheaper model, it has the same type of motor but due to a less technical method of sensing the riders input it's cheaper and will be better suited to someone like me who doesn't have much energy to give. The other bike would be best for someone who wants to use less motor power but go for further distances. I'm looking forward to having a bit of independence again after about 8 years of not being able to drive.
Sadly it's out of stock until late January so I'll have to be patient :)

>>26219 The crank drive units are great for hills, better than the hub motors, but put a lot of strain on the gears and chain. They also make having a front dérailleur system complicated so most crank systems have a single front gear :/

26/11/13(Tue)10:05

a 2wd cycle! Just like the Yamaha 2trac!

found this video, looks complicated.. I like it, pity I don't have a down hill cycle anymore

Conversion kits go from around £400-£1000 for an existing bike, full bikes for around £500-£3000.
You can get kits that replace the front wheel which won't interfere with existing gears or a rear wheel kit which can take up to a 9 gear cassette.
I'm trying to decide whether I should add a kit to my ancient (1990) Raleigh Mirage MTB, get a newer and much lighter MTB and add a kit to that or just go with a new MTB eBike for between £850 and 1350. You can get little eBikes for £500+ but not the style of bike I like.

25/11/13(Mon)19:35

however those (full) electric bikes are so expensive, this would (hopefully) be cheaper. But will it work with a cycle with multiple rear gears?

25/11/13(Mon)18:52

There are quite a few companies making these now. I'm quite tempted to get one for my mountain bike so I could start using it again. That or get a whole new electric bike. I expect I'll have to think about it for a few more years before I make a decision :D
