You say 'installed'? That's a very LARGE engine room.
I only went into the engine roome once when I was aboard a heavy cruiser (679 ft. long). The bottom of the pistons were exposed as were the rods and partial crankshaft. It was huge and was half way emersed in oil. Big splashguards would keep the splatters contained. There were pipes, valves and electrical cables everywhere. Far as I know, it never broke down. It was built in 1945 and decomissioned 17 years later.
Engines this size just can't afford to break.

Just...WOW! The propeller impressed me but that giant washer and locking nut...boy oh boy. A person really has to trust the cables and crane hoisting those parts into position. The assembly, sealant and perfect alignment of the engine is staggering.

It's overwhelming what this is and what it does. Imagine the giant molds, engineering and machiniing that goes into the manufacturing of this engine. Look at the solid piece of steel block that houses the crank shaft. Damn! I was trying to think how in the heck they attach the rod caps to the crank shaft journals. There would have to be a way for the worker to crawl out of an oil pan after installing the bolts. Amazing!

This is the Wärtsilä RT-flex96C, a modular engine for powering container ships. It is available in inline configurations from six to 14 cylinders, producing from 65,978 hp to 113,209, respectively, at 102 rpm. It’s pressurized by turbos the size of your living room, ranging from one on the six-cylinder to four on the 14. Engines are 25 feet wide, 44 feet 4 inches tall, and the 14-cylinder is 87 feet 3 inches long and weighs 2535 tons. The cylinder bores are 38 inches across and stroke is more than eight feet, giving each cylinder a displacement of 110,426 cubic inches. For the 14-cylinder, that’s a total displacement of 1,545,962 cubic inches, or 25,334 liters. Fuel economy is a mere 1660 gallons of oil per hour.
