It could be as simple as coolant lines bumping each other (happens occasionally as vibration isolators wear out) or as detrimental as a compressor motor dying. You can pull the fridge out and identify where the sound is coming from by turning the thermostat to its coldest so the compressor runs. Then get in position down by the compressor and unplug the fridge, then plug it back in, repeat as many times as necessary to find the noise. If it is lines making noise you can bend them slighty apart from each other or place a piece of rubber or foam between them as bending them too severly may cause a fracture in the line. If it is coming from the compressor, start saving your money. It is not to say that the compressor will die soon, but it will eventually quit running (could be years off still).

They are interesting but I skipped a bit because of the length. I liked Oppy's perspective in that it would have been invented some day and responsibility with the final product is/was what's the most important.
